For example, the freely available gliding computer software <a href=\"https:\/\/www.xcsoar.org\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">XCSoar<\/a> can be used for visualization.<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>If you include my summit directory in <a href=\"https:\/\/www.xcsoar.org\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">XCSoar<\/a> or in comparable (gliding computer) software as a waypoint file, you will see all mountain peaks in the display from a certain zoom level. This can be of great help when you are looking for thermals or want to get the most out of long-distance flying.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><a href=\"#Downloads_CUP\"><span style=\"color: #03a9f4; font-size: 1.5em;\"><i class=\"fas fa-download \" ><\/i><\/span>\u00a0 Click here to go directly to the download selection!<\/a><\/p>\n<p>The following figures show some visualization examples of my summit directory with <a href=\"https:\/\/www.xcsoar.org\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">XCSoar<\/a>. Here the map\/terrain database\u00a0 <a href=\"https:\/\/www.xcsoar.org\/download\/maps\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><em>ALPS_Altair.xcm<\/em><\/a> was used as background. Additionally you are welcome to link to my website for download. If needed, I can also create files with worldwide coverage (<a href=\"http:\/\/zirbitzkogel.at\/blog\/en\/contact\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">contact<\/a>).<\/p>\n<p>The mountain peaks contained in the <em>SeeYou CUP files<\/em> I created have been extracted exclusively from <a href=\"https:\/\/wiki.openstreetmap.org\/wiki\/Main_Page\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">OpenStreetMap<\/a> (<a href=\"#Datenquellen\">link to the data sources used<\/a>). I cannot guarantee completeness and correctness. Missing elevation data for the summits I filled in with the help of freely available digital elevation models. Especially in the mountains, these elevation models may have larger errors.<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>I point out that the files are not suitable for instrument flight or IFR conditions. Technically, the mountain peaks are so-called <em>nodes<\/em>, which are marked as <em>natural=&#8220;peak&#8220;<\/em> in OpenStreetMap. The desired areas are defined either by the international country code or by polygons.<\/p>\n<p>In addition, <a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/GeoJSON\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">GeoJSON<\/a> files with the country boundaries can be included, which are used, for example, when generating the files of the Alpine region to assign the individual peaks the country code, which is relevant for the SeeYou CUP files, by reverse geocoding.<\/p>\n<p>If the elevation of a peak is missing in OpenStreetMap, it is read from a suitable <a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Digital_elevation_model\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">digital elevation model<\/a> using the known geographic coordinates of the peak and added to the peak entry in the SeeYou CUP and KML\/KMZ files.<\/p>\n<p>The basic structure and format of the SeeYou CUP files I generate is shown in the following figure.<\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_2312\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-2312\" style=\"width: 640px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><a href=\"http:\/\/zirbitzkogel.at\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/06\/SeeYouCUP_explanation_en.jpg\"><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" class=\"wp-image-2312 size-large\" src=\"http:\/\/zirbitzkogel.at\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/06\/SeeYouCUP_explanation_en-1024x389.jpg\" alt=\"Structure or format of the SeeYou CUP files generated by me. Each peak is represented by a waypoint.<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>Details about the standardized KML format used for representations in <a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Google_Earth\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Google Earth<\/a> are available <a href=\"https:\/\/developers.google.com\/kml\/documentation\/kmlreference\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">here<\/a>. KMZ files are nothing else than <a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/ZIP_(file_format)\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">ZIP<\/a>-compressed KML files. The content of both file types can be visulized by drag &amp; drop with the desktop version of Google Earth, among other things.<\/p>\n<p>The KML\/KMZ files I generated also contain a link to the Wikipedia article and to the first photo contained in the Wikipedia article (<a href=\"http:\/\/zirbitzkogel.at\/blog\/2019\/08\/05\/gipfelverzeichnis-gipfelliste-google-earth\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">see here for details<\/a>). To find the Wikipedia article, the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.mediawiki.org\/wiki\/API:Main_page\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Wikipedia API<\/a> is used for searching the nearest Wikipedia article, which must be within 200 m of the geographic mountain peak position. A link to the <a href=\"https:\/\/opentopomap.org\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">OpenTopoMap<\/a> is created simply by using the geographic summit coordinates.<\/p>\n<hr \/>\n<h1 id=\"Datenquellen\">Data Sources and Credits<\/h1>\n<h2>Geographical Positions, Names and Heights of the Mountain Peaks<\/h2>\n<ul>\n<li><span class=\"ILfuVd\"><span class=\"hgKElc\">Extracted from OpenStreetMap. The data is subject to the Open Data Commons Open Database License (ODbL). \u00a9<\/span><\/span> <a href=\"https:\/\/www.openstreetmap.org\/copyright\/en\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">OpenStreetMap<\/a> contributors.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Where the elevations of the peaks were missing from the OpenStreetMap data, they were added using digital elevation models in the<em> SeeYou CUP files<\/em> and in the <em>KML\/KMZ files<\/em>. The following elevation models were used:<\/p>\n<h2>Elevation Models for Peaks Within Europe<\/h2>\n<ul>\n<li>LiDAR elevation model compiled by Sonny (Website: <a href=\"https:\/\/data.opendataportal.at\/dataset\/dtm-europe\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">https:\/\/data.opendataportal.at\/dataset\/dtm-europe<\/a>; email: <a href=\"sonnyy7@gmail.com\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">sonnyy7@gmail.com<\/a>) from various freely available OpenData source data (CC BY 4.0).
